STATESBORO, GEORGIA (December 12, 2025) – A 57-year-old woman has tragically died in a Statesboro truck accident near East Parrish Street and North Main Street.

Statesboro officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:40 AM on December 10. A woman riding a tricycle was traveling on the south shoulder of East Parish Street when she attempted to cross the road at a pedestrian crosswalk.

The driver of a Ram commercial truck struck the victim at the intersection. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim.

Despite life-saving measures at the scene, she died due to the severity of her injuries. The driver of the commercial truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Statesboro Truck Accidents

Truck drivers in Georgia are expected to obtain a commercial driver’s license and exercise a great deal of caution to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 40-6-91, “The driver of a vehicle shall stop and remain stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling.” Several factors could contribute to a pedestrian collision.

  • Blind Spots: A truck driver may fail to check their blind spots as they are traveling down the roadway.
  • Speed: A truck driver may have been traveling at a speed that makes it difficult for them to stop in time to avoid a pedestrian.
  • Driver Distraction: A truck driver may be distracted by their cell phone or conversations with other people.

Truck drivers must use caution to avoid hitting pedestrians, even if those pedestrians are outside of marked crosswalks. Commercial drivers must take into consideration that the movement of pedestrians can be unexpected at times. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, they could be held at fault through a negligence claim. Their employer could also be vicariously liable for the accident.

Steps to Take After Georgia Truck Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions every year. These collisions are increasingly involving larger vehicles. According to National Public Radio, “Vehicles with higher front ends and blunt profiles are 45% more likely to cause fatalities in crashes with pedestrians than smaller cars and trucks, according to new research published Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.” Any person involved in a Georgia truck accident should take certain steps.

  • Police Report: The police report created following the accident should be gathered and reviewed. It can be instrumental in establishing what went wrong.
  • Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence related to the scene of the collision should be carefully preserved. This will include gathering the contact information of potential eyewitnesses.
  • Legal Review: Any person impacted by a truck accident in Georgia should carefully review their options with the team experienced in tort claims. They can review the unique facts of any case and identify all liable parties.

Truck accidents tend to be highly preventable. In many situations, they involve truck drivers that are simply not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. However, truck companies often do everything in their power to deny liability if they hit a pedestrian. They might try to claim that the victim was actually at fault. This is why it is so important that the unique circumstances surrounding any collision are thoroughly reviewed.
